1 mindset trap that guarantees you will NEVER get rich writing online
I’d like you to imagine your first day as a multi-millionaire.
All your dreams have come together and you’re celebrating.
You’re sitting in the sun on a tropical beach getting a tan.
You’re not doing a damn thing — just chilling, maybe reading a book, getting a drink. You go in the water for a bit. You come back to your chair for more chill time.
This is it, everything you’ve worked toward. You’ve made it.
Now fast forward a week.
You’re nice and relaxed now, but you kind of miss your own bed
You’ve finished the books you wanted to read and you’re kind of running out of stuff to do
The food is good but you want your homemade spaghetti instead of something from a buffet
Now what?
You have your whole life in front of you.
Suddenly, your plan to do “nothing” for the rest of your days has hit a snag.
The reality is that people who aspire to get rich in order to do nothing will never get rich.
And I’ll let you in on another secret: doing nothing will NEVER make you happy anyway.
Allow me to explain why, and then I’ll tell you about a billionaire who tried the nothing route and discovered the same.

Laziness isn’t a goal
Are you lazy?
This is going to sound mean, but most people who latch onto “get rich quick” schemes are lazy and they’re looking for ways to STAY lazy.
But that just straight-up never works.
I know, because that was me earlier in life.
I dreamed of a life where I could just sleep in and, I don’t know, play video games all day if I wanted? I didn’t really have a plan.
To reach that sad-sack “goal”, I’d dabble in dead-end activities like sports betting and options trading.
Then I’d start websites and just let them die because creating content consistently was time-consuming and required effort.
I’d write down a bunch of great ideas and then they’d just sit in a notebook gathering dust.
The reason people who operate from a “get rich to be lazy” mindset will never, ever actually get there because they’re always looking for shortcuts.
And the simple fact of the matter is THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS.
Otherwise it wouldn’t be so rare to get rich.
It’s called the 1% for a reason.
Selling the dream
Log onto to YouTube and you’ll be flooded with videos promising EASY ways to make $7000 per week NOW.
That’s the reason I make videos like this one, where I talk about making 20c my first day on YouTube.
Too many people quit their side hustles before they ever get off the ground because they’ve been scammed into believing that building a business is easy and that you’ll get rich overnight.
And the rest never wanted to work hard in the first place.
The reality of starting a business — content or otherwise —is that the returns are almost always paltry at the start.
The exponential money comes later when you’ve put in countless hours and everything suddenly ignites.
It’s hard work to have the option of being rich and lazy.
But here’s a secret: most rich people won’t ever be lazy because they can’t stand to do it.
The laziness lie
Why?
Most people who’ve gotten rich off their own efforts are driven, hard-charging people who enjoy being busy and chasing goals.
And besides, even being lazy and “having fun” all the the time gets boring.
Just ask Billionaire Mark Cuban, who provided this incredible insight in a recent interview with GQ.
Here’s what he told the magazine:
“You’ve got to ask what the definition of retirement is. The definition of retirement is getting to pick exactly what you want to do, whatever that is.
“When I sold MicroSolutions, I bought a lifetime pass on American Airlines, and I just went and partied with as many people as I possibly could. That lasted for four years, maybe.
“Then, when we had the chance to start Audionet and Broadcast.com, I got right back into it because I was bored doing nothing.
“I was bored just having fun.”
I’ve always believed there are only two things that can bring you true happiness:
Moving
Creating
For Cuban, and for LEGITIMATE side hustle dreamers, it isn’t the ability to do nothing that drives them.
In fact, it isn’t really about the money in and of itself.
It’s about creating.
It’s about winning.
And it’s about the freedom that comes with winning.
Cuban continued:
“Well, why do you keep on working? Why do you keep on starting companies?
“For the exact same reason I still play pickup basketball. I’m just competitive.
“You’re not old until you act old. Being able to compete just keeps the juices going, keeps my mind sharp.”
If you’re thinking of starting a side hustle, make sure you’ve got a good reason for it.
Because if your only aspiration is as shallow and uninspiring as “I don’t want to do anything”, that’s probably not going to sustain you through the grinding start and the ups and downs of entrepreneurship that follow.
Publish Every Day progress update: Day 36
I’m doing an experiment to see if I can make enough money to retire from commuter life within a year by publishing every single day on different platforms and investing my earnings into passive income vehicles.
How much I need to retire: $250 CAD per day
What I earned on Day 36: $35.76 (writing) + $0.83 (YouTube) = $32.09 total
