One reason I’ve managed to make more than $50,000 writing on Medium is that I have a keen interest in continual improvement.
Recently, someone left a comment on one of my articles saying they were quitting because the site didn’t value their writing.
The real problem was their writing was extremely niche (to the point of barely having an audience) and they weren’t trying anything else.
I had to ask: “And what have you personally done to turn things around?”
Most of the time, the answer is “nothing”.
If there’s one constant with Medium (and any online platform really), it’s change. The reality is that I’ve had to reinvent myself several times to keep up with it.
Knowing this, I’m constantly reviewing my work to figure out what is or isn’t working, why those things are or aren’t working, and hunting for edges.
If you don’t find those edges, you’ll get lost in the sea of millions upon millions of pieces of content published every single day.
I do this in a bunch of different ways, but I recently conducted an experiment that turned up 4 simple elements that appear in EVERY ONE of my many viral articles.
Let me tell you about those now.
