Well, I finally decided to stop ignoring the advice of people far more successful than me and started a new, free newsletter.
There, you’ll find pretty much everything I publish here, plus some bonus content you won’t get anywhere else.
The newsletter is free for now, but I do intend in the future to add a paid tier that will include exclusive tutorial content like articles, videos, etc., focused on the platforms I’ve used to generate close to $40 per day in side hustle income.
That means more stuff than ever about making money writing on Medium, how to develop a YouTube channel, plus a blow-by-blow account as I build in different areas and develop digital products.
If you want to be the first to know about those projects, definitely take a moment now to hop over to my Substack and subscribe to my newsletter.
Why a newsletter?
As I wrote in my last earnings piece last month, “Why my Medium money is about to crash but a larger victory awaits”, you always need to be expanding and growing as a content creator.
There are a couple of main disadvantages to sticking to just one platform on your side hustle journey:
You’re limiting your audience
You’re putting your future success exclusively in the hands of one business or algorithm
The second one in particular is a dangerous game to play.
Although I still believe Medium is by far the best and most underrated way to make money online — and I do believe you should use it as the foundation for all your other projects — it is also always fiddling around with how it recommends stories.
That can make for some pretty wild variance in your earnings.
Why now?
I came across a piece by Tim Denning this week that has me a little concerned about living and dying by a single platform’s rules.
In it, he writes:
“I’ve now got to the point where I like not having an algorithm determine my future like it has done for years. I still want to play with algorithms but I just want to rely on them 10x less.”
Perhaps I’m reading too much into it, but if Medium’s top writer by a large margin suggests he’s getting wary of algos and is suddenly feeling motivated to turn his newsletter paid to generate more income, I take notice.
Is Denning getting annoyed with Medium’s glitchy and constantly-changing recommendations too?
Although I’m still a huge Medium guy, I don’t feel super comfortable being JUST a Medium guy.
It’s why I also have a YouTube channel, now a newsletter, two websites, and plans to start developing digital products and print-on-demand.
So, one last time, my Substack newsletter is free and it’s right here. Please do head over and give me a subscribe if you enjoy my work on Medium!

I love the Substack model. As you know I am a recent writer on Medium and I like the platform. There are for’s and against’s for any platform. Substack does provide more control and they genuinely look to help all writers succeed. There is also a much higher standard of writing on Substack.
